In the United States, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth most common cancer and the second cause of cancer death.
Determining the best time to get a follow-up colonoscopy may help prevent CRC.
Welcome to the FORTE Study at Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC)!
The FORTE Study (Five- or Ten-Year Colonoscopy for 1-2 Non-Advanced Adenomatous Polyps) is a colorectal cancer (CRC) prevention study that seeks to answer the question:
- When should patients who had one or two small benign polyps (adenomas) removed during a colonoscopy have a repeat surveillance colonoscopy?
In the US, colonoscopies are the most common screening method for CRC. Using a randomized clinical trial, the FORTE Study seeks to understand the optimal time to get a follow-up colonoscopy. We expect 9,500 people nationally to participate in this study. The results of this study will affect large portions of the population over age 45.
The FORTE Study is funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and is a collaborative effort between Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) and many other healthcare sites.
